Mr and Mrs Bun's Buns - Easy Homemade Hamburger Buns

Ingredients
  

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour 420 Grams
  • 1 ¼ teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1 egg lightly beaten
  • ¼ cup 2% buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil or another oil
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1 package active dry years 2 ¼ teaspoons
  • ¾ cup warm water (between 100º and 105º F - 38ºC)
  • Optional Ingredients
  • Egg Wash (1 egg white mixed with 1 tablespoon water
  • Sesame, Poppy, or Everything But the Bagel Seasoning

Instructions
 

  • Place the flour, salt, egg, buttermilk, oil, sugar, yeast, and warm water into the work bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a dough hook. Mix 5 - 7 minutes, allot to rest and rise in the bowl for 45 minutes.
  • Punch the dough down and divide it into 6 equal portions. Roll into a ball and place on a baking sheet that is covered in either parchment paper or a silicone Silpat liner. Flatten slightly. Allow to rest and rise for 45 minutes.
  • Set the oven to 375ºF (190ºC). Place the cooking sheet in the center of the heated oven and bake 10 minutes - brush the tops of the buns with the egg wash and sprinkle with optional toppings (if using). Continue to bake 5 minutes or until the tops of the buns are nicely browned.

Notes

These are a denser bun, unlike most commercial buns. They are perfect for juicy burgers, and pulled pork or chicken sandwiches.
